Invisalign offers a practical solution to straightening crooked teeth and improving the quality of your smile. Although the process takes time, the aligners give you straighter, healthier teeth for life! At Stein Family Dentistry in Spokane, Washington, we offer Invisalign to our patients seeking a straighter, healthier smile. Invisalign offers numerous perks to make orthodontics less tedious. At the same time, you have to do your part if you want your Invisalign treatment plan to succeed.
The following rules can help improve the results of your Invisalign procedure:
To achieve optimal results, you’ll need to wear the aligners consistently, ideally for 22 hours a day. You’ll remove the aligners for eating and brushing, and flossing your teeth. Afterward, they should be put back in your mouth to keep your teeth moving to a straighter position. The longer you wear the aligners, the sooner you’ll see results.
Dr. Stein will create a series of aligners for your use. Each set in your series is needed to achieve your smile goals. Every few weeks, you’ll switch to the next set in your series. Switching the aligners on time keeps you on track with the timeframe of completing your treatment.
We recommend you brush and floss after every meal to minimize plaque and bacteria buildup on your teeth. Having a travel toothbrush with you at all times will make it easier to keep your teeth clean. Good oral care will help prevent dental issues that can delay your procedure. As much as possible, avoid sugar-filled and acidic foods during your treatment, as these put you at greater risk of decay and gum disease.
Your aligners are essential to the success of your treatment. So, it’s important to care for them diligently. Take a few minutes to rinse your aligners with warm water whenever you remove them. Brush your aligners daily with a soft bristle brush and clear, liquid soap to keep them clean. Store your aligners in a safe container when not in use to prevent them from getting misplaced or damaged. Replacing lost or damaged aligners takes time away from your treatment.
Dr. Stein will schedule appointments periodically to monitor your progress, check your oral health, and ensure all is going well with your procedure. These appointments shouldn’t be missed! These visits allow us to catch problems early and nip them in the bud so they don’t delay your treatment.
When your treatment is complete, we’ll give you a retainer to wear (primarily at night) to keep your teeth in their new, straightened position. Failure to use this retainer can undo all the work that Invisalign accomplished in aligning your smile.
